“Exploring Thailand with private guides and hand-picked boutique stays uncovers a depth and intimacy that ordinary group travel simply cannot provide.”
A Thailand tour package can mean anything from a bundle of hotels and airport transfers to a fully guided private journey. The right choice depends on how much you want planned for you. This guide explains what separates good Thailand tour packages from thin ones, which routes work in 7, 10 and 14 days, and when to travel for each coast.
Always ask what is not included: international flights, visa and entry costs, travel insurance, most lunches and dinners, and tips. Ask for an itemized quote so you can compare packages fairly. A lower headline price often means fewer guided days or simpler hotels.
Three nights in Bangkok for the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, canals and street food, then four nights on a beach in Phuket or Krabi. Compact and easy for a first trip. See our guides to things to do in Bangkok and Krabi.
Add two or three nights in Chiang Mai for old-town temples, markets and a day in the hills, then fly south. Our Chiang Mai guide covers what to prioritize.
Two weeks lets you add Chiang Rai and the White Temple or the historic city of Ayutthaya, plus a slower stretch at the beach. For beach-only time, compare Phuket beaches and the best resorts in Phuket.
Off-the-shelf Thailand vacation packages work well if your dates are flexible and you are happy with a set route. A tailor-made Thailand tour starts from your dates, interests and budget instead: the specialist chooses the order of places, the hotels and the pace, and you can change anything before you book. Most of our travelers sit somewhere in between, starting from a classic route and adjusting the hotels, the beach and the number of nights.
Couples usually want fewer hotel changes and more time in one beautiful place: a few nights in Bangkok or Chiang Mai, then a long beach stay in a private pool villa. Add a sunset boat on Phang Nga Bay or a blessing at a temple. See our Thailand honeymoon guide.
Families do best with connecting rooms, shorter travel days and a beach with calm water in season. Cooking classes, ethical elephant sanctuaries and island days by private boat suit children of most ages. Build in a pool afternoon after each busy morning.
Luxury in Thailand means riverside hotels in Bangkok, design-led retreats in the north and beachfront villas in the south, with private guides and transfers throughout. Our guide to luxury resorts in Thailand compares the regions.
Rather than quoting a headline figure, it helps to know what moves the price. The biggest factors are the season (mid-December to February is the most expensive), the hotel category and room type, private versus shared guiding, the number of domestic flights, and boat trips, which cost far more privately. Fewer hotel changes and one coast instead of two keep a trip simpler and usually cheaper. Ask for an itemized quote so you can see where the money goes.
Thailand combines easily with its neighbors. Cambodia’s temples of Angkor are a short flight from Bangkok, and Laos is a natural extension from the north: Luang Prabang is close to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. A Thailand and Cambodia trip works well in ten to fourteen days. See our Cambodia tour packages guide.
Thailand does not have one weather pattern. The Andaman side (Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak) is generally best from roughly November to April, with the heavier monsoon rains from about May to October. The north is cooler and drier from about November to February, while air quality in the north can be poor around March. Because the seasons differ, a good package changes the beach to match your dates. See our best time to visit Thailand page.

Seven days covers Bangkok and one beach; ten to fourteen days lets you add Chiang Mai, a second beach area and slower days.
International flights, visas or entry steps, insurance, many meals and tips. Ask for an itemized quote.
Private tours cost more but offer flexible pacing and are better for families and special occasions; group tours reduce the per-person price.
For November to February travel, book several months ahead, since the best hotels sell out.
Rules depend on your passport and are being updated in 2026; check the official immigration site. Everyone must also complete the TDAC online.
