Most international travelers need a visa before visiting Bhutan and must pay a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF). The process and applicable charges differ for travelers from India, Bangladesh and the Maldives. Always check your nationality and travel dates with Bhutan’s official visa information before applying.

How much is the SDF?

Bhutan’s official FAQ lists US$100 per adult per night for most nationalities, with age concessions and a different rate for Indian nationals. Specific incentives and exemptions can apply, including for certain border-town visits. Rules can change; confirm the rate and eligibility directly for your nationality, age, itinerary and dates.

How much is the visa?

The official visa page lists a non-refundable one-off US$40 application fee where applicable, separate from the SDF. Indian nationals require a permit; Bhutan provides separate guidance for travelers from India, Bangladesh and the Maldives. Check the official page rather than assuming the standard fee applies to everyone.

How do you apply?

Bhutan says travelers can apply online or ask a tour operator or hotel to apply on their behalf. The official guidance lists a passport copy, recent photograph, arrival and departure dates, and payment details among the requirements. Authorities decide applications; submitting an application does not guarantee approval.

Can My Way Travel help?

My Way Travel can help coordinate the visa and SDF as part of planning a private trip. Ask your specialist who submits the application, what documents are needed and which fees are included in the quote or payable separately. Your proposal should also list the itinerary, hotels, guiding and transport. Never assume a quoted total covers every flight, meal or government fee unless it says so.

Can fees or rules change?

Yes. Verify the official visa page and FAQ for current rates, exemptions, refund rules and processing times before you apply or pay. Government charges are not the full cost of accommodation, guiding and transport.
