Things to do in Bhutan

Visit Punakha Dzong in Bhutan

Punakha Dzong stands at the meeting of two rivers in western Bhutan. It is a place of religious and civic importance, so plan a respectful visit and ask a guide about current access and opening arrangements.

What to know before visiting

Allow time to enjoy the valley rather than treating the dzong as a brief stop on a long transfer. Your guide can explain its history and local significance; access to specific rooms may change for religious or administrative reasons.

What to wear

Bhutan’s official visitor guidance asks people to wear long sleeves and cover their legs at temples, remove shoes when entering and avoid taking photographs inside sacred sites. Follow posted rules and staff instructions, and ask before photographing people.

Pair it with a valley stay

Punakha fits a western Bhutan route with Thimphu and Paro. Confirm the road itinerary, guide, hotel and any entrance fees in your personal proposal. More context is in our Punakha Valley guide.
