Seven days in Bhutan can introduce Paro, Thimphu and Punakha with time for a Tiger’s Nest hike if it suits your fitness. This is a sample private route, not a fixed package: flight times, road conditions, hotel availability and your preferred pace determine the final plan.

A suggested seven-day route

Day Suggested plan
1 Arrive in Paro; allow time to settle in.
2 Travel to Thimphu; explore the capital with your guide.
3 Thimphu: choose cultural visits and a relaxed pace.
4 Cross the Dochula Pass towards Punakha; allow for weather and road conditions.
5 Punakha valley and dzong, with a walk if appropriate.
6 Return to Paro; discuss the timing of the Tiger’s Nest hike or a gentler alternative.
7 Depart from Paro, subject to your flight schedule.

If a full hike is important, ask about adding a night in Paro. Putting a demanding hike, long road transfer and departure too close together can make a short trip feel rushed. An extra day also creates room to adjust for weather.

Can the route be customized?

Yes. Discuss whether you prefer more walking, cultural visits, hotel time or a festival. Phobjikha can be considered on a longer trip, but it adds driving; the best sequence depends on your available nights. Ask your specialist to explain the itinerary and all transfers before booking.

What should be included in a quote?

Request the number of travelers and nights, named hotels and room types, private guiding and vehicle, transfers, meals, admissions, visa assistance, Sustainable Development Fee and flights. Ask which items are included and which are extra, and whether the price is for each traveler or the group. Confirm payment, cancellation and change terms.

Before the Tiger’s Nest hike

The climb is demanding for some travelers and is at altitude. Discuss your fitness and any health concerns in advance; a gentler day can be a better choice. Bhutan’s official visitor guidance explains respectful conduct at sacred sites, and its FAQs cover guiding and entry.
