Walk the Gangtey Nature Trail in Phobjikha, Bhutan
The Gangtey Nature Trail offers a way to experience Phobjikha Valley’s forests and pastures. Bhutan’s tourism authority describes it as a relatively gentle route of about four to five kilometres, but conditions, ability and weather affect the experience.
What to expect
Discuss the route and length with your guide. Ask about slopes, the condition of the path, transport to the start and the possibility of shortening the walk. Wear appropriate shoes and carry a layer against changing mountain weather.
When to visit
The valley changes through the seasons, from greener and wetter summer months to colder winter days. Black-necked cranes migrate to the region in winter, but sightings are not guaranteed. Respect the wetlands, keep your distance from wildlife and follow local guidance.
Plan the day
Allow time for road travel and consider an overnight in the valley rather than squeezing the walk into a long transfer day. Details and guide availability need confirmation. See our Phobjikha guide.
