Experience overview

This trip is popular with all ages and experience levels - it's one of our most family-friendly adventures. We combine a range of authentic cultural experiences and enjoyable activities to ensure you enjoy your time in Vietnam. We'll take you to areas and pathways that you wouldn't see in a typical journey. This is a truly custom-made experience! This trip will take you through various ruins and military hotspots, as well as some of the most scenic areas of Vietnam. Fortunately, all of the paths are very easy to ride, which makes it a great choice for families of all ages. You'll even have a chance to cook and eat a meal with an authentic Vietnamese family. While much of Vietnam is now urban sprawl, there are still parts of the country where you can enjoy traditional and countryside living. People are surprisingly friendly - you'll be able to interact with locals throughout the trip. While you could spend years exploring this unique country on your bicycle, the seven days of this trip will still give you plenty of time to explore some of the best areas of Vietnam. It's a great introduction to the Mekong Delta and other areas along the coast. If you want to extend your stay in any of the locations along the journey, we're happy to build a custom trip for you!

Sample Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival Saigon

Upon arrival in Saigon, you will be welcomed by the My Way Teams and transferred to your hotel via a private transfer. The remainder of the day is free for you to relax or explore at your leisure. You may choose to visit the Opera House and the former Presidential Palace, concluding your day at Ben Thanh Market. This serves as a wonderful introduction to Vietnam. Later, we will savor a culinary welcome at a traditional Vietnamese restaurant.

Day 2
Boat & Bike to Tunnes

Boat and Bike to Cu Chi Tunnels. Transfer to the Mekong Delta. Riding: 20 - 25 km

Meal: B, L, D

Commencing our initial full day, we embark on a boat journey up the Saigon River to reach the starting point for our first cycling adventure. The bikes are prepared, allowing us to immediately delve into cycling through rubber plantations and small villages along the western edge of the country. By lunchtime, we arrive at the Cu Chi Tunnels. Before exploring this intricate tunnel system, we pause for a meal.

These tunnels were part of the network used by the Viet Cong, the resistance army. The specific site we visit has been widened and transformed into a museum. It offers a captivating experience for those comfortable in enclosed spaces and provides an entertaining exploration for children. For those who may feel claustrophobic, there's a pleasant shaded area where you can enjoy a refreshing drink. In the mid-afternoon, our journey takes us into the Mekong Delta, with our first stop being the quaint town of Ben Tre, where a simple yet clean and comfortable hotel awaits.

Day 3
Bike, Boat & Transfer to Tra On

Bike, Boat & Transfer to Tra On. Riding: 30km
Meal: B, L, D

The Mekong Delta has evolved into a intricate network of canals, ranging from small enough to accommodate a small rowboat to expansive multi-lane canals used for shipping produce. Many of these canals are flanked by paths, both paved and unpaved, making them ideal bike lanes, even though motor scooters form a significant portion of the traffic. The pace is leisurely, and there is a mutual consideration for each other's movements.

Today, we'll pedal along these paths, unveiling the crucial role the Mekong Delta plays in Vietnam's prosperity. Often referred to as the country's food bowl, in every direction, you'll witness activities such as planting, harvesting, processing, or enjoying food. We'll partake in some of the culinary delights ourselves, prompting the thought of whether this is more of a food tour than a bike tour.

As the day warms up, our ride concludes, and we transition to Tra On by driving and boating. This village eagerly awaits your arrival. Tonight's accommodation is in the home of a local family, adapted to offer ample space and bedding. It provides a genuine insight into village life.

Day 4
Fly & Transfer to Hoi An

Morning Life in the Mekong. Fly & Transfer to Hoi An
Meal:BLD

This morning, you'll awaken to the sounds of daily life in the Mekong Delta, where roosters herald the arrival of a new day. Mornings in this region are vibrant with activity and vitality as locals commence their day early to take advantage of the cooler temperatures. Fishermen navigate the canals, farmers tend to their crops, and a significant portion of the village heads to the local markets for daily transactions.

The air is filled with the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and a homemade breakfast. The Mekong Delta is renowned for its fresh produce, allowing you to relish in this bounty one last time before we embark on our journey to the central coast. Today, we have a bit of travel ahead, so we'll commence the morning at a relaxed pace, allowing you to immerse yourself in the rural ambiance.

Our journey begins with a 2.5-hour transfer to Can Tho airport, followed by an hour-long flight to Da Nang on the central coast. From there, a brief transfer will take you to your resort and new home base in the historic town of Hoi An. In the late afternoon, your guide will collect you for a walking tour of the UNESCO-listed old town. For dinner, your guide can provide recommendations based on your preferences.

Day 5
Cycling to the Countryside

Old Town to the Countryside, Families, Artisans and Age-old Traditions. Riding: 20 - 25 km
Meal: B, L

Our half-day cycling adventure invites you to immerse yourself in the rich culture, history, and commerce of the countryside just south of Hoi An. Despite being only a stone's throw from Hoi An, the scenery is authentically rural, offering a quintessentially Vietnamese experience. As one family eloquently noted, "It's like riding back in time compared to the modern amenities of our hotel."

Starting our biking journey from the hotel, we navigate through hidden passageways and winding alleyways, pausing to capture the beauty of the iconic Japanese bridge. Crossing the bridge near the night market, we visit a local family employing traditional methods to make Banh Dap, a common breakfast staple in the countryside. Our cycling route leads us to one of the region's most picturesque villages, where we stop at a family home to delve into the tradition of family chapels. Our host, nearly 90 years old, shares his experiences from fighting in the American War.

Continuing our journey, we pedal past rice fields and vegetable farms alongside small canals and waterways, eventually reaching a boat building site. Fishing remains the lifeblood of the province, and witnessing the construction of these boats is a remarkable and photogenic experience. Our final destinations include a traditional mat weaving shop and a family distillery, where rice wine has been crafted using the same methods for generations. If the timing aligns, we may witness families gathering to clean fishing nets between their journeys at sea.

From here, it's a short ride to board a local ferry for a scenic trip back to town, offering fantastic views of the Hoi An waterfront. Once dockside, we indulge in lunch in the old town along the river, followed by a quick ride to return to your hotel. There's ample time for the kids to swim in the pool or take a dip in the ocean. For dinner, you have the flexibility to choose your own venue, with your guide available to assist in restaurant suggestions.

Day 6
Cycling in Hoian

The Waterways, the bamboo workshop and Organic Farming Villages of Hoi An. Riding: 14km
Meal:BLD

Hoi An boasts a rich history dating back to the first century but is most renowned for its pivotal role as a trading port for Chinese and Japanese sea merchants during the 17th and 18th centuries. Remarkably, the town's beauty was spared during the American-Vietnam War, and today, Hoi An stands as a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city, unrivaled in Indochina. Its old town is a captivating and photogenic gem, situated a short distance from a pristine beach where you can leisurely enjoy a coconut.

Today's exploration takes us through the waterways, coconut palm plantations, and the renowned Tra Que organic vegetable village. Our journey commences with kayaking from near the hotel, navigating Hoi An's captivating waterways surrounded by coconut plantations and villages preserving age-old traditions. Following a brief stint on the water, our next destination is a bamboo workshop, where you'll be astonished at the versatility of bamboo and learn to craft your own gift. Switching back to bikes, we embark on a scenic ride through rice fields that concludes at Hoi An’s organic vegetable village, where a welcoming family invites us into their home. Indulge in a locally prepared and delicious traditional Vietnamese lunch. In the early afternoon, our private van swiftly transports us back to the hotel, leaving time for a refreshing swim in the pool or a dip in the ocean.

Day 7
Hoian free & leisure

You are free & leisure in Hoi an.

An amazing trip out together by Stephen at My Way Travel! This was our second trip ( went to Vietnam and Cambodia 2019). Stephen is great to work with- very flexible and listens to what we wanted to do. This trip was originally scheduled for April 2020. A honest company that asked if I wanted my deposit back and I said no - that I would use it in a future trip! How many companies around the world did this???? We had great guides In Bangkok and Chiang Rai and Chiang Rai. Fon was full of energy and fun in Bangkok. Ann was one of the best guides I have ever had- she took us to a couple of places not noted on the tour. We went for a hike at a waterfall and visited the cave where the Thai boys were rescued in the cave. Both Ann and Fon gave us wonderful suggestions for restaurants. I would absolutely recommend Stephen and My Way Travel! We plan to use him again in planning Bali!

We have just returned from a 16 Day/15 Night trip to southeast Asia including stops in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand planned by Stephen at My Way Travel. We reached out to My Way Travel with quite a tall order asking them to arrange a trip for us that included visiting 9 cities in 15 nights! From the first point of contact, our experience with My Way Travel was absolutely fantastic. Stephen was very attentive and let us customize our tour however we pleased. All of the hotels he booked for us were incredible and the tour guides and drivers made us feel like family. It was very easy to keep in touch with Stephen throughout our trip via Whatsapp. The only thing we really needed during our trip was to add baggage for one of our flights and he was able to take care of it the day before we arrived at the airport. All the drivers/guides showed up on time and made transferring from airport to hotel to tour to wherever extremely easy. I will definitely recommend this company to anyone that plans on traveling to Asia.
