What to see

Nepal Tourism Board describes a dense concentration of pilgrimage and heritage sites across the valley, including Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath and Boudhanath. The historic palace squares in Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur each have distinct architecture and museum access.

How to plan a visit

Do not try to see every major site in one day: traffic between the cities can be slow. Dress respectfully at religious places, ask before photographing worshippers and check current entry rules at heritage monuments. Keep some unscheduled time for neighborhood walks and rest after arrival.

How it fits a private itinerary

Use Kathmandu as an arrival base, then visit Patan and Bhaktapur as separate half-day or full-day outings. Continue to Pokhara or Chitwan after checking road and flight schedules.

Opening hours, access, transport and seasonal conditions can change. Sources were checked on 27 October 2026; reconfirm details for your dates.
