What to see

The park’s landscape differs from Nepal’s Himalayan destinations, with forests, grasslands and river environments. Visitors may encounter a range of wildlife, but sightings are never guaranteed and should not be the measure of a successful visit.

How to plan a visit

Use a registered guide or naturalist and follow park rules on distance, noise and routes. Ask what activities are currently permitted, how vehicles or boats are operated and what happens during poor weather. Bring sun and insect protection, and check seasonal conditions before travel.

How it fits a private itinerary

Chitwan works well between Kathmandu and Pokhara or Lumbini, but road journeys can take longer than expected. Allow at least two nights for a relaxed visit.

Opening hours, access, transport and seasonal conditions can change. Sources were checked on 27 October 2026; reconfirm details for your dates.
