Asahidake Trekking

The cable car trip up Mt. Asahidake from Asahidake Onsen is the highlight, and justifiably so, since the scenery only improves the higher you go.

Short loops may be taken to see the many lakes and vistas around the cable car station, while longer, more challenging routes go to the top of Mt. Asahidake (2,290 m) and beyond.

Climbing before early July requires extra precautions due to the persistence of snow. However, the high meadows bloom with alpine flowers after the snow, making this a popular time to visit.

It's common for the leaves to change color as early as the first week of September.
