Discover Berlin’s Creative & Historic Side

Berlin is one of those cities that feels different every time you walk into a new neighborhood. Parts of it are grand and historic, while others feel raw, creative, and constantly changing. Old government buildings stand beside street art-covered walls, trendy cafés fill former industrial spaces, and reminders of the city’s divided past are never far away.

The city was once separated by the Berlin Wall, and traces of that history still shape Berlin today. You can visit remaining sections of the wall at the East Side Gallery, see the famous Brandenburg Gate, or walk through the open spaces around the Reichstag, where Germany’s parliament meets. Throughout the city, memorials and museums help tell the story of World War II and the Cold War in a thoughtful and honest way.

Berlin is also known for its creative energy. Areas like Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain are filled with independent galleries, local markets, music venues, and some of the city’s best street art. Museum Island is home to several major museums, while quieter neighborhoods reveal leafy parks, canals, and relaxed cafés where locals spend long afternoons.

For a deeper understanding of the city, guided walking tours can focus on Jewish heritage, World War II history, or life in East and West Berlin during the Cold War. One of the more unusual ways to explore the city is by Trabant tour, driving the small East German cars that once became symbols of daily life behind the wall.

If you have extra time, Potsdam is an easy day trip from Berlin. The city is known for its elegant palaces, landscaped gardens, and lakeside setting, offering a quieter contrast to the capital.

Berlin is easy to explore by metro, on foot, or by bicycle, and from late spring through early autumn the city has its best atmosphere, with busy beer gardens, outdoor cafés, and long evenings spent along the river and in the parks.
