Specialist Overview

Chengyang, China

Chengyang is a group of Dong villages near Sanjiang in northern Guangxi, known for its wooden drum towers and covered bridges. The Dong people build these without nails, and the Yongji Bridge, often called the Wind and Rain Bridge, dates from 1916.

Dong culture. Dong singing, a tradition listed by UNESCO as intangible heritage.

Getting there and how long to stay

Chengyang is about three hours by road from Guilin, and is often combined with Longji and Zhaoxing. One night is enough.
