Borneo - Getting to know Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary
Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary is known across the world for its exceptional work with our orange-furred friends. The site, covering over 25 square miles of lush, dense, protected rainforest, is a sanctuary for the rehabilitation of orphaned and injured orang-utans, which are threatened by the rapid deforestation taking place in Borneo by oil palm plantations.
What to do at Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary
On site there is a research and educational centre, and the hourly presentation is highly recommended - very informative, and great fun.
The sanctuary does a wonderful job, not only in protecting these wonderful creatures, but also in bringing their plight to the attention of the world. There are plenty of options to make donations – why not join Selective Asia in adopting an orphan? Visit www.orangutan-appeal.org.uk for more details.
Where's the wildlife?
You are practically guaranteed a sighting of at least a few orang-utans during your visit, although arriving at one of the feeding times is very much advised!
