Hike to Tiger’s Nest in Paro, Bhutan

Tiger’s Nest, or Paro Taktsang, is a cliffside monastery reached on foot from the Paro Valley. The climb is demanding for some travelers and takes place at altitude. Allow a day, discuss your ability with your guide, and choose a gentler alternative if the hike is not appropriate.

How to prepare

Wear suitable walking shoes, bring water and layers, and allow time for breaks. Ask about current trail and weather conditions. Travelers concerned about altitude or health should seek medical advice before travel. Walking time varies considerably; do not treat a schedule as a guarantee.

Visiting respectfully

It is a sacred site. Bhutan’s official guidance asks visitors to cover arms and legs at temples, remove shoes where required and avoid photography inside sacred sites. Follow your guide and local signs.

Include it in your journey

Discuss the hike when planning a Paro stay, ideally allowing for rest and avoiding a tight connection. Our Tiger’s Nest guide explains more. Access, guides and arrangements need confirmation for your dates.
