An overview of Ngapali Beach
Ngapali Beach is located on the Bay of Bengal and is widely considered to be one of Myanmar’s best beaches – if not the best. The area is perfect for relaxation and an excellent place to briefly escape from the stresses of everyday life. The 2km-long beach is often very quiet and is frequently rated as the finest due to its white sands and crystal-clear waters. The area surrounding the beach is still largely undeveloped and the local village retains a relaxed atmosphere as fishermen go about their business in this beautiful setting. However, although Ngapali Beach is often uncrowded it has still seen a growth in tourist numbers in recent years and there are now several bungalow-style resorts that cater for wealthier tourists in the area. Thus, the village is home to a number of activities and attractions that include snorkeling, boating trips to see the nearby uninhabited islands, and even a golf course too. Due to the proximity of the coastline, the region offers a range of pleasant restaurants that offer high quality seafood and it can be a fantastic place for those that love culinary experiences.
For those willing to venture inland, tourists will find a range of cultural opportunities including a chance to see local people make traditional arts and crafts (such as clay pottery) in the nearby town of Thandwe. Here, visitors will also be able to experience a handful of religious sites and a busy market that was formerly a British jail. The market sells an eclectic range of souvenirs and products and it can be a fun way to engage with locals.
