The Ancient Wonder of Mrauk U
Mrauk U is an important city in Burmese history, and it was once the capital city of one of the region’s most powerful kingdoms. Located on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, this ancient trading port is home to a number of important heritage attractions and remains one of the country’s greatest hidden secrets that receives fewer tourists than many of the more popular attractions. This tour will offer opportunities to see plenty of fascinating cultural heritage sites that include the famous Shite-thaung Temple and its beautiful statues, stupas, and the amazing ‘80,000 images of victory’ (after which it is named). The tour starts in Yangon before moving on to the state capital and important cultural city of Sittwe, for a relaxing evening in front of a stunning sunset. The journey to the pinnacle destination of the tour – Mrauk U – will involve a scenic boat ride through picturesque landscapes. Highlights of Mrauk U will include the pagodas of Laungbanpyauk, Yadana Mannaung and Sakaya Mannaung as well as cultural encounters with local indigenous people (the Chin people). The tour concludes back in Yangon.
