Discover Chengyang: Dong Minority Villages and Traditional Architecture
A few hours’ drive beyond Longji, you will find yourself transitioning from the Zhuang to the Dong minority villages. These picturesque villages, nestled around the meandering Lingxi River, are home to the Chengyang village, where four hamlets come together to create a serene and captivating landscape. The traditional wooden houses and small fishponds are harmoniously blended into the lush surroundings of bamboo groves, providing a tranquil escape.
The Wind & Rain Bridges of Chengyang
One of the standout features of Chengyang is its wind and rain bridges. Each of the four hamlets boasts its own intricate wind and rain bridge—a multi-tiered structure designed to protect villagers from both the elements and flooding. These bridges are not only functional but are also beautiful examples of Dong architecture, each one competing in complexity and craftsmanship.
In addition to the wind and rain bridges, each hamlet also features a multi-tiered drum tower, another traditional symbol of the Dong community, showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage.
