Best time to visit Sri Lanka
When to visit Sri Lanka often depends on which part of the island you’d like to explore. Thanks to its tropical climate, the country welcomes visitors all year, with steady warmth and sunshine. Average temperatures range from around 22°C in the hills to 31°C in the coastal regions, where the heat is more intense. In contrast, the central highlands stay pleasantly cool. Showers can appear at any time, but they are often brief and refreshing.
If your journey takes you to the southwest coast, the driest, sunniest months are December through April. For the east coast and the north, the most comfortable season is May to September, once the monsoon has passed.
The hill country, wrapped in tea plantations and misty valleys, offers cooler conditions throughout the year. The only time to avoid it is during October and November, when the rains can be unpredictable.
