For many people, Vietnam is known mainly for the American War and the Imperial past. But it is slowly building its own future and owning its own identity. This trips starts in the nation’s capital, Hanoi. The night market and street food venues will give you a real taste of local life. Whilst during the day, we will show you the main attractions, like the Temple of Literature and Ho Chi Minh’s final resting place. From here we take a fascinating road trip, heading north to take in the architecturally important hamlet of Ky Son, the hiking center of Mai Chau and the truly stunning Ninh Binh. Known as the Halong Bay on land, this is a scenically beautiful part of the country and the trip will include a boat trip through the famous Trang An Grottoes.

Next, it’s all aboard the reunification express train for a journey south along the coast to Dong Hoi. The town is adjacent to the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. Here you’ll visit the world’s largest cave system, and see the amazing examples of stalactites and stalagmites. Your journey continues with a road journey to Hue, the former capital of the country and home to the UNESCO site of the Complex of Monuments. En route you’ll visit the DMZ and the Vinh Moc tunnels, used by fighters in the war, as an escape from the bombing.
