Take a Songthaew (local vehicle) to the historic marketplace of Wat Gatekaram to kick off this intriguing day trip. After wandering the mazelike network of streets, marketplaces, and temples that make up Bangkok’s “street life,” you may take a songthaew to Wiang Kum Kam.

After a devastating flood, the city of Wiang Kum Kam disappeared without a trace, and for almost two centuries, its civilization remained a mystery under the soil. Take a bike tour of the city’s major ancient ruins, then return to the city proper in time for lunch by long-tail boat on the Mae Ping River.

After lunch, take a samlor up Thapae Road to the stunning remains of Wat Chedi Luang, where the legendary Emerald Buddha was originally housed. Take a tuk-tuk to the bustling Warorot Market at the end of the day to mingle with the locals as they stock up on fresh produce and spices. To return to your accommodation, you and your guide may catch a songthaew.
