An overview of Kalaw
Located in the centre of the country, Kalaw is a remote hill town located in Shan State. The town was a popular place amongst the British during colonial times, especially during Myanmar’s hotter months. Today, set amongst wonderful scenery, the town is an exceptional place for those interested in nature and hiking trails (especially to and from the famous Inle Lake) although the terrain can be challenging for some. It also remains a popular cultural attraction due to the number of local indigenous people that live in the area. Here, you can experience local customs and traditions by visiting the fascinating spice markets and tea plantations, as well as the handful of religious sites in the town too.
