Getting to know The Bolaven Plateau

Situated along the banks of the Mekong, Huay Xai faces Chiang Khong as it rises from the waters of Si Phan Don (4,000 islands), the Bolaven Plateau confers rich soil and has an ideal weather for the multitudes of coffee and tea plantations that are found in the region. The cooler weather also provides relief for the weary travelers in need of a day or so of cool breeze.

The plateau is accessible from Pakse, around a two hour drive, along with the tea and coffee plantations, the region’s main attractions include the towering Tad Fane waterfall and the serene atmosphere of Tad Lo waterfall. Along the banks of the two falls, you will find the Tad Lo Lodge, a cozy spot to spend a night or so in, and for visitors who rise early, it is possible to watch elephants bathe in the deep pools.
