Getting to know Kratie

Kratie is full of energy and old colonial architecture along the banks of the mighty Mekong River. Most tourists arrive hoping to get a glimpse of the popular Irrawaddy dolphins, often seen swimming 10kms north of Kratie. The most ideal time to visit Kratie and see the dolphins is between March and August when the waters are at a lower level, however, you can still see the dolphins throughout the year. Avoid visiting during lunchtime as sightings are less frequent compared to early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

Kratie is a convenient stop between a trip to Siem Reap or Phnom Penh, and the more secluded region of northeast Ratanakiri or en route to Southern Laos.
